Texas A&M Solar Car Racing Team Presents:

Duodecim

Meet our 2022 - 2023 Solar Team!

Ever since our racing team’s foundation in 2022, the Texas A&M Solar Car Racing Team has only seen upwards growth! We are now 80+ members strong while boasting over 17 majors from many different disciplines within Texas A&M University, including disciplines outside of engineering such as visualization, mathematics, physics, and marketing. As Aggies, we also strive to uphold our core values of excellence and selfless service through implementing initiatives in sustainability, renewable energy, and STEM education in our local community. As a close-knit team, we represent Texas A&M University as one of the newest and brightest student organizations in The College of Engineering and one of the top sustainability clubs on campus. In order to achieve all of this, we make sure our team can run as optimally as possible. Our team is divided into three core divisions: Mechanical, Electrical, and Business, each further specializing in key subsystems:

  • Aeroshell Team: Innovating aerodynamic designs with optimal drag reduction, ensuring ergonomic comfort while selecting high-quality materials.

Chassis Team: Creates mechanical components to ensure driver safety in impact scenarios while also creating other structural components of the car. Additionally, we work to ensure all other teams are able to be integrated within the vehicle properly.

Manufacturing Team: Researches and fabricates parts for all the mechanical subteams. Focuses on machining, welding, fastening and composite layering techniques in addition to CAD/CAM applications.

SSWAB Team (Steering, Suspension, Wheels, and Brakes): This team researches and creates dynamic systems for optimal vehicle performance. They implement systems that enable the car to be steered and brought to a stop when necessary.

  • Battery Team: Designs the cars battery box to optimize the batteries’ efficiency while minimizing weight. This is in order to maximize the car’s range and maintain the health of the batteries.

Array Team: The Array subteam analyzes the car's photovoltaic cells and determines the most optimal configuration to maximize efficiency with consideration to the rest of the systems in the car.

Telemetry Team: Creates a wide variety of sensor systems to assist in the monitoring of driver and car function. This is done to make ensure not only driver safety and efficiency but also to ensure car efficiency and find any fault points.

PDB Team (Power Distribution Board): Responsible for power distribution throughout the car, ensuring that all systems get the right amount of voltage and current, reliably and safely. We are also responsible for the configuration and setup of the motor and its controller.

Battery/BMS Team (Battery Management System): Constructing ASC-compliant battery packs and establishing a vigilant monitoring system for voltage, temperature, and current, with emergency shut-off capabilities in unsafe conditions.

  • Outreach Team: Establishes and maintaining relationships with sponsors and the community. Their goal is to secure sponsorships that provide the necessary resources and funding whether it be specific material or monetary donations.

Social Media Team: Utilizes popular social platforms to create lasting relations with students both on and off campus. Their goal is to help keep a positive image of the club and all its members.

Finance Team: Manages and keeps track of all the money and material donations. Their goal is to optimize the spending done by the team and making sure that we utilize all our resources to their full potential.
